Georgia is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It was one of the original 13 colonies, the last to be established. In 1861, the state seceded from the Union and was one of the original 7 states that formed the Confederate States of America. The state is named after England's King George II.

Georgia is bordered to the north by Tennessee and , to the east by South Carolina and the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by Florida, and to the west by Alabama. There are five distinct geographic regions in the state. Along the border with Tennessee is the Ridge and Valley Providence and the Cumberland Plateau; along the border with North Carolina are the Blue Ridge Mountains; the center of the state is the Piedmont; and the southern half the state is the Coastal Plain.

As a result of the topography of the state, Georgia's climate varies with each region. Most of the state is considered humid subtropical, with the southern and coastal areas influenced by the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. The northern foothills experience snowfall several times a year, though snow is rare south of Atlanta.

Georgia has a diverse economy that includes agriculture, manufacturing, and natural resources. Georgia Location in USTransportation is also important to the state. Atlanta has historically been a crossroads for the south, and today Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is one of the world's busiest.

Georgia is represented in all major sports, including the Atlanta Falcons (NFL), the Atlanta Braves (MLB, NL), the Atlanta Hawks (NBA), and the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL). One of golf's premier events, the Masters, is held annually at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta.
